As Tillie clicked the shutter, Ester Harz and Mildred Heine paused from their work in the field with friends to pose for a group portrait. Children and young people worked right along with adults - planting, tending and harvesting crops. To this day, schools that give students a long summer vacation reflect the need that farming families had for their children's help in the summer months.
