Through Tillie's Eyes features a Drawing Lesson reprinted from two early 20th century textbooks. Below are some activities to use to help students develop observation skills and increase awareness of nature in their own "backyards."

Drawing and Nature Activities

Collect samples of leaves, wildflowers, and plants found in the area and bring them to the classroom for the students to observe and draw.

Have students keep nature journals for a week. See how many different birds, plants and trees the students can locate and identify in their neighborhoods.

Teachers are invited to stop by Hoosier Grove Museum during regular museum hours to pick up an Illinois Wildflowers and Animals identification poster.
